    Third-year MD student

    UBC Faculty of Medicine — Island Medical Program

    Coordinates CLOT-LESS end to end — from the original experimental concept through procurement, build and the flight campaign itself. Holds a PharmD alongside the MD programme, which put the pharmacology of thrombolytic therapy at the centre of the question the team is asking. Leads primary development of the clot model and carries the project’s knowledge-translation work.

    Runs the imaging system that turns clot lysis into something you can watch: a macro optical train recording the microchannels at high frame rate throughout each parabola, capturing the fragmentation events that complement the pressure data. Also leads the team’s scientific communication and coordinates sponsorship and funding.

    Builds the scientific case underneath the experiment — synthesising the thrombosis and spaceflight-physiology literature into the rationale that shapes what CLOT-LESS measures and why. Contributes to development of the clot model, and leads the team’s grant searches and proposal writing.

  • Moeid Elahi

    Mission Specialist

    First-year anesthesia resident

    University of Toronto — Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine

    Brings a professional engineering background to a medical question. Owns the engineering of the payload: the microfluidic channel design, the structural integrity of the rack under repeated hypergravity loading, and the integration of the differential pressure sensors that produce the experiment’s primary data. Responsible for making the instrument reliable enough to survive twelve parabolas.

Preparation, documentation and outreach around each flight day.

    Supports the literature work behind the experiment and drives the outreach side of the project — building the STEM modules that take CLOT-LESS into elementary and high school classrooms once the campaign is complete.

    Principal Investigator for CLOT-LESS and the team’s clinical anchor. Provides scientific and operational supervision across the project, and advises on experimental design, fluid dynamics, and keeping the work tied to the clinical reality it is meant to inform. Also contributed the IV fluids, tubing and connectors used throughout the fluidic system.
